A suspect wanted in a federal manhunt opened fire on law enforcement Tuesday. According to MySanAntonio.com, local and state law enforcement joined a federal manhunt for the suspect and attempted to take the man into custody in a restaurant parking lot. The suspect resisted and opened fire on police. One bullet went through a glass pane of the restaurant, but no one was injured.

A woman accused of driving while intoxicated and injuring an El Paso police officer says she is not guilty. Sherry Lorraine Rodriguez pleaded not guilty in court on Wednesday. Rodriguez is accused of crashing into a police vehicle and seriously injuring Officer Andy Rodriguez in December.

Defense Attorney: Perry under the influence when he crashed into officer's motorcycle

The man who allegedly rammed into an El Paso Police motorcycle officer, killing him, accepted a 40 year plea deal from the district attorney Tuesday. ABC-7 has learned from defense attorney Joe Spencer that John Paul Perry, 45, was under the influence of Xanex and heroin the day he collided with Officer Ortiz's motorcycle. Spencer maintains the crash was an accident.

60 law enforcement officers fatally shot this year, 20 in ambushes, report says

A total of 60 law enforcement officers have died in firearms-related incidents in 2016, marking a 67 percent  increase since 2015, the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund reported.  Citing a preliminary report from January 1 through November 23, the organization said that Texas has seen the most fatalities this year with 18.  So far, 130 officers have died nationwide.

The El Paso Police Department has added thirty-one (31) officers to their ranks after the graduation of the 120th academy class on Monday, November 28, 2016.  The rookie officers graduated in a ceremony held at UTEP’s Magoffin Auditorium.  The new officers will be assigned to patrol duties at the various Police Regional Command Centers.
